unable to enable repositories in Dapper

A few shots in the dark from an ignorant noob, but based on my own
mistakes!

Using sudo to edit sources.list? (no offence!)

Have you got a previously edited version still existing as a swap file?
(sources.list.swp I think)

It sounds as though the file isn't getting overwritten, what happens if
you rename it sources.list.bak and rewrite it, e.g. from here:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources.php 



BTW I thought that Opera wasn't in the repositories but had to be got
from e.g. here:

http://snapshot.opera.com/unix/



could well be wrong though (in fact take that for everything!!)
