apt-cache show nano

[snip]
Provides: editor
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.4-1), libncursesw5 (>= 5.4-5)
Suggests: spell
Conflicts: nano-tiny (<= 1.0.0-1), pico
Filename: pool/main/n/nano/nano_1.3.10-1_i386.deb
Size: 256972

Not very big, is it? Why not just leave it there, and run

sudo update-alternatives --config editor
sudo update-alternatives --config view

and choose vi/vim from the list ?

or run sudo update-alternatives --all

and review the lot at once :)
