Cpu-hotplug in Sparc64 for Ubuntu Linux

I am trying to do a cpu-hotplug for T2000 running Ubuntu Linux (kernel:
2.6.17 smp). The cpu-hotplug.txt mentioned that it is not supported for
sparc architecture. Does anyone know of a patch or another way of
getting around this cpu-hotplug. 

The system cannot be re-booted every time I do "maxcpus=n" at the boot
prompt. Any words of wisdom on this?
