You could be a little more specific with what you tried.
The manual way to do it is like:
1) load kernel module visor (try this with the palm already connected in the
cable). Just to make sure, you can unload the module, and load it again.
2) make sure the symlink in dev is ok (sometimes the ttyUSB[01] remain locked.
in this case, the driver will create devices 2 and 3, and so it goes as
needed, so make sure the link points to the last available)
3) run pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l
4) press hotsync button in palm device
If all goes well, you should see a list of PDBs currently installed in your
device (this operation is read-only, so it's safe).
If you can't complete this routine, you must determine at what point it fails.
