i had a similar problem only with the ppc version. the trick is to manually
edit the xserver conf file and remove the line that says
load 'dri'
simply do sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
scoll down remove that line and restart the server by doing sudo xserver
restart
see how taht goes
someone could check the path to xorg is correct, it was some time ago and im
on a win machine at the moment so i can't check it
