What's the exact output (eg. 10 lines) you see before it hangs.
If this is dapper, I had something similar when a new version of 'initramfs'
was also installed, which performed an 'evms_query info' which is what
actually hung as that only seems to work when a newer kernel was already
running (eg. the machine had been rebooted).
