apt-get freezing installing linux (kernel)

Hello, 
I can't install any kernel, apt-get install linux-image-2.6-386 or 686 just 
hangs consuming lots of resources on Setting up linux-image-2.6.12-10-386 
(2.6.12-10.26) ...,
can anybody help me ?
