I will be a voice of dubious dissent here. If any Linux distro has a
chance of success against the MS juggernaut it will be Ubuntu. That
much I'll say. But there are some horrid jagged bits left (sound, for
example, and I've heard nasty things about printing but thankfully
haven't had to deal with it yet) that will cut you and make you bleed
unless you have the Unix mindset.
I don't forsee explosive growth for Ubuntu in the coming year (or,
rather, if there is explosive growth it will be matched by higher
implosive forces quickly thereafter). I see slow steady growth for a
while as problems get cleaned up with an opportunity for the more
explosive variety in, say, two or three years.
