Thanks for the input people, it looks like the 9250 is the best choice,
will go for that. Hell, if it doesn't work I can always return it, as I
will be buying it on-line and one (at least in France) has 7 days to
change his mind and return goods at his convenience.
Matrox ? Yeah would love too !! I have one actually... a 10 year old
Millennium II 4MB. Despite its old age, the picture is quite
better/sharper/cleaner than the Nvidia ! Actually that's how I realised
that the Nvidia was crap in the first place ! ;-P
But sadly the 2D performance is not good enough anymore for today's
needs (video scaling, full screen playback, and just everything really).
Or maybe it's just due to the driver. At the end of the day the result
is the same...
Also, and I don't know what Linux support is like for their current
range of cards (do they fully release the specs of their hardware ? DO
they provide Linux drivers ? Are they top quality ? Are they
open-source ? DO they maintain them actively, fix bugs etc fast ?). My
plan is rather to buy one of these "OpenGraphics" card, as, at least on
paper, they answer all my needs and desires perfectly.
But R&D resources on this OpenGraphics project appear to be very scarce,
and they won't have any card to sell us before the end of the year....
IFFF all goes to plan ! Cross fingers..
So my old-ish ATI project is a way to keep me going until then, using as
little money as possible (30 Euros max, the price of the 9250), since it
will become redundant as soon the OpenGraphics one becomes available.
Thanks again everyone for the input,
