can't get static ip

Hello,

I'm connected to the Internet via umts and mobile network.

Now I want to connect my printer via lan. Therefore I configured the wired
connection in Network Settings with a 192.168. ip and the subnet mask. But
when I plug in the cable the machine starts the dhcp client and requests a
dynamic ip. After a while it reports a successful connection and the ip is
set to 169.something.

What is wrong?
