Interesting:
I can verify that pattern.
Although we have been using linux only the past year in production, we
migrated from OS/2 not windows. In OS/2 we were sometimes using an OS/2
specific front end, but still using cdrtools cdrecord and miksofs ports.
specifically with Audio/Data CD Record in the wps (workplace shell) and
XCDRoast on x11
We generally have about 6 production machines at any one time.
Looking at purchases we have usually had to replace a CD writer at the 9-12
month point..
Can't compare with windows however because our windows machines have always
been used for Corel Draw and and Serif Page Plus and not much else. I
seldom write CDs in windows.
Our usual failures are motor and media sensing.
Incidently the speed of the recorder has apparently a lot to do with it.
I still have a couple of Sony CRX100E recorders which max out at 4x. I
bought several of them from a surplus company a while back.
Not only do seem to last forever. (One is going on 3years and just showing
signs oof being tired)
They never seem to fail a verify either.
One commenton writing errors. We do a LOT of recording .mostly of graphic
images. I have a rule of ALWAYS recording at no greater than 1/2 the rated
speed of the recorder or disc whichever is less. this has virtually
eliminated verification failures.
