The package -format- is the same, but the packages are not. E.g., the
Debian version of a library package foo may be 2.1.0, but the Ubuntu
version is 2.1.2. Given the amount of packages involved, these subtle
differences can greatly mess up the package manager's dependency
database. Even if a specific case has no bad effects in the short term,
it can make upgrading to the next release a mess.

And even if the dependencies work out, the specific wrong package
combinations may not have been tested and have additional bugs.
