ESS Technology ES2838/2839 SuperLink Modem (rev 01) with ubuntu

 From what I can garner from Google, there are no modem drivers for ESS
and Linux kernel 2.6. I want to confirm that there is no way to get my
ESS Technology ES2838/2839 SuperLink Modem (rev 01) to work with Hoary.
I am also wondering if there a program similar to ndiswrapper, but for
windows modem drivers, that I could try for this modem.
