the average non-geek doesnt/shouldnt edit configuration files, if you
dont fiddle with them they will get regenerated cleanly.
if you did, the packaging system will respect that and not touch it.
there is a huge warning in the header of xorg.conf that describes that,
i would assume the average geek who edits such a file is careful enough
to read such a warning ;)
