Recording video and sound

Hello All
I have a Brooktree Bt878 TV card install in my box and use TVtime to
watch TV. Now I would like to record TV with the CLI application
streamer but I don't get sound. I was searching the Internet a lot but I
couldn't get it work so far.
First of all, details about my hardware:
- AMD64 Athlon 64 3000+
- ASUS A8N-SLI Mainboard
- Bt878 Video Capture
- Bt878 Audio Capture
0000:05:06.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878
Video Capture (rev 02)
0000:05:06.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio
Capture (rev 02)
The Sound in TVtime is working. I use the audio jumper cable for this.
Thus, the sound goes to the line_in of my sound card.
Here is the first thing which looks somehow strange to me. After
rebooting the box, I can adjust the volume of the line_in in the "Volume
Control" with the "Line-in" switches, but also "Volume" has to be high.
So it looks like "Volume" is the master control and "Line-in" is the
slave. AFTER, I started TVtime the volume of line_in is only controlled
by "Volume" (even TV time is not running anymore).
I see two sound devices:
# ls /dev/ds*
/dev/dsp /dev/dsp1
I used "sox -w -r 448000 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp -t .wav test.wav" to see on
which one I get the sound of the TV card. I used /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp1.
But I cannot record any sound of one of this two interfaces.
I found out that it should be possible to get the sound direct from the
pci bus with my card. The snd_bt87x should do the trick. And this module
gets loaded during boot. So, I assume the /dev/dsp is the line_in of my
sound card and the /dev/dsp1 is the sound from the TV card. Actually, if
I unload snd_bt87x the /dev/dsp1 is gone.
Why do I can't record any sound either on /dev/dsp or /dev/dsp1?
How can I tell TVtime to use /dev/dsp1?
Or do I something completly wrong?
Thanks in advance, Thomas
