Default to A4 paper in OpenOffice with hp deskjet

Well, it looks like I spoke too soon. OpenOffice still defaults to A4
when I print.
And in response to another message: I have checked the printer
settings under File-->Printer settings. Every time I select "Letter",
then close and restart OpenOffice, it goes back to A4.
Also this is the same whether I create a new document or open an
exisiting one. When I go to Format-->Page-->Paper, it's always set to
"letter". Why the print dialog doesn't consider the formatting of the
document being printed, I do not know.
