FOr those about to do so:

The computer is a dual opteron based system with hoary amd64 installed.

Changed the apt/sources file to pint to breezy.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

barfed on the powerd syncing, with a kernel panic

entered rescue mode.

agin apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

all looked good

then did teh final install as per the BreezyUpgradeNotes

ie sudo apt-get install ubuntu-base ubuntu-desktop

Unfortunatly things then go wrong.

If you boot as normal you get the gdm logon screen and it fails to
complete the boot.

If you go rescue mode all is good, start gdm you can log in with a
warning HAL failed to start.

Assistance here would be appreciated.

Regards,

Ashley
