Hi,

do: sudo apt-get install build-essential
This will install make among other things.
I recommend you to install checkinstall also.
Then instead of running:
----------------
./configure
make
sudo make install
----------------

you should change "make install" for:
sudo checkinstall

It will create a deb package and install it.
You can the uninstall it with synaptic or apt
and it gives you a .deb file too so you can install
it later again or use it in another similar system.
