nVidia with stock kernel crashes when leaving X

Duron 3000+ on a A7V600 and a GeForce 5950U here. Have tried the stock
Breezy K7 kernel, a homecooked 2.6.14.2, the nvidia drivers in
restricted, 6629+patch and the latest 7676. All exhibit this problem.

I can stress the machine a bit with network traffic and DVD-RW
activity and it will just lock up.

Same here. I have a null modem cable attached, with console onto
serial port. Nothing at all when it crashes. I am toying with the idea
of patching in KDB in the kernel just to be able to debug it.
