The menu configuration for desktop environments has only recently
started converging on a standard. Many applications are not packaged to
add entries to the menu. The work by freedesktop.org should help, as
there should only be one place to add entries. Gnome and KDE have been
using the "standards" proposed by the freedesktop.org group recently.
