Don't know if it matters, but the CPU is a socket 939 AMD64 3000.

I was looking at Adams post, but could not make much sense of it. By the looks of things, it seems that I do not have the chipset driver in the modules file. How do I know which one is needed?

Sorry to be such a pain, like all things linux, there is always something new popping up that leaves you wondering where to start. I know its been said before, but I will say it again. The level of support and newbie-friendliness in this community is one of Ubuntu's greatest strengths. Thanks for all your help. It certainly help keep these little hiccups and bumps much more tolerable for an average user like me.

best,

Ben
