cannot read/print japanese pdf files

I have tested again, with a printer this time.

The first file displays correctly with gpdf, and prints correctly.

The second file displays correctly with xpdf, but not with gpdf, and
printing it with xpdf fails... I have tried to convert it to ps
("ps2pdf yachiyo.pdf"), but this produced an error:
