Generally speaking, packages are compatible, but it is recommended
strongly that you refrain from mixing repositories.

Pain in the form of overwriting files (conflicts) and missing
packages (depends) is certainly well-known. A great deal of effort
is put into the Ubuntu packages in Ubuntu's repositories to ensure
the packages work together; packages that aren't built with Ubuntu's
dependencies cannot be guaranteed even to install.
