I've never been able to burn an ubuntu iso to CD with OS X's Disk 
Utility.  I use cdrecord, as others have mentioned.  If you don't mind 
using the commmand line, it works great.

You can get cdrecord, and lots of other good free software for OS X, 
from the fink project:
http://fink.sourceforge.net/
