A linux friend, a Mandrake fan, just sent mailed me to inform me that
Mandrake just put a great idea together : they sell a well speced HP
laptop for only 750 Euros, loaded with XP and Mandrake (dual boot
then). They will also sell them through "LDLC", which is a major and
well known company that joe public knows about, and it has good
reputation. So this will give this great offer visible to people who
don't even know about Linux, instead of wasting time and effort
preaching the existing converts.
The offer is only available in France from Mandrake, but it seems LDLC
also makes business in Germany. So with France and Germany, it's quite
significant.

Everything about this offer seems perfect to me, whe you think about
it :

1) It's already installed, and uses a single H/W setup, so Mandrake can
work on the machine to make everything work perfectly smoothly, which
will give the newbie user a great first impression, which is vital no ?

2) It's got XP as well, so they aren't worried. Their curiosity will
push them naturally to boot into Linux once...twice... then for life :o)

3) The price is very fair yet performance plenty enough, no "cheap/ will
do" machine

4) It's an HP machine, not an obscure brand. People will feel confident
about buying it.

5) LDLC is well known among non-Linux users/joe public

So, could Sir Shuttleworth/Canonical/Ubuntu consider putting together a
similar offer, in as many countries as possible, with Ubuntu on it ?
That would be so bloody brilliant ! :o)

I hope someone at Ubuntu is reading this ! :o)
