Two modems on one line????

Tried that, no joy --internal integrated modem produces error 680--no 
dial tone, external modem works OK.   Integrated modem works OK when 
external modem is disconnected.

For some reason, the external modem seems to prevent the internal modem 
from generating a dial tone.in any configuration.
