samba i/o errors copying multiple files

Hello again,

Today I'm trying to copy files from my notebook (windows 2000, wireless
card) to my desktop (arty, wired to the router) using a samba share
mounted on /mnt/smb.  The problem is rather bizarre:  If I try to copy
the files into my warty home directory using gnome I get an I/O Error
after four or five files but copying single files, even fairly large
ones, works ok.  If I try to do the same thing using windows to copy the
files into my warty home directory it seems to work without a hitch.

Any ideas what's going on?
