PHP5?

Hi,

Not sure if this list or the developer list is the place to post this.
(I've quickly checked the archives of both and not found anything related).

The subject says it all. I notice extensive PHP3/4 packages in hoary
universe but not a sausage for PHP5. I've investigated PHP5's state in
Debian and noticed that it isn't even in SID yet. There are various
"unofficial" sources one can apt-get install from (eg
http://www.dotdeb.org/ and http://people.debian.org/~dexter/) but I've
encountered problems due to dependency issues and apache modules not
being set up properly. Basically, its possible to get it working but it
isn't a smooth procedure.

PHP5 has been out since last summer and there are lots of cool tools
that are exclusively PHP5 (http://www.xisc.com/ springs to mind). I
would package them into debs myself but don't have the experience to do
so (actually it'd be fun to try).

Yes, I want to have my cake and eat it - use ubuntu AND develop web
applications with it! Any idea what the PHP5 plans are for ubuntu?

Comments / suggestions?

Regards,

Nicholas
