I had a USB hub that had ethernet, serial and PS/2 keyboard/mouse on it as
well that used the kaweth driver. Depending on what was plugged in to the
hub, sometimes the ethernet adapter would work properly, and sometimes it
would fail. It shipped with a power adapter, and after a little bit of
investigation, it turned out that if I didn't use the power, and the combined
draw of the devices attached (including the inbuilt devices in the hub)
exceeded 500mA, certain devices would start to play up.

Using the power adapter all the time appeared to solve that issue.

Note: I did not use the device with Ubuntu, and I no longer have it. Sorry!
