1. When you type in "vncserver :1" to start a session, are you in the
graphical environment, a terminal, or with gdm shut down?
2. What type of system are you starting VNC with? Another Hoary or
Warty or what?
3. What shows up in your ~/.vnc directory? Have you checked the log?
What does your xstartup file contain?
