I assume you mean DeskJet 5551? According to linuxprinting.org, it
[URL=http://linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_5551]works
perfectly[URL] - and their info is usually accurate.



DId you try going to System-Administration-Printing and selecting your
printer there? If it doesn't automatically suggest a dirver, choose
hpijs. 



To run Synaptic, go to System-Administration-Synpatic Package manager.
