Sure, it's definitely a wildbeast, but no reason to fear it.

It just does what you tell it to, and it can do lots.  Start with the
tutorial on C-h t (or "Ctrl-h" then "t" for the non-emacs-speaker.)

With a bit of luck there will be a GTK2 version of emacs in Breezy,
the upcoming version 22, or the CVS head of it.
