Not all the telephone exchanges in the UK are ADSL enabled yet. And some
of them that aren't enabled are not particularly remote: they just
haven't been upgraded yet.

FWIW: my company has a few subsidiaries around the UK (and elsewhere).
We've one site in the wilds of Northern Ireland that can get broadband,
and another one not too far east of Exeter [1] that can't. It's far
enough outside Exeter that it's on a different exchange, which is due
to be upgraded in a couple of months.

I can't wait, personally: they're making do with ISDN. The people
actually working there are even more keen!

[1] *West* of Exeter is Dartmoor, and that counts as "wild" and
"remote". *East* of Exeter is merely rural, with plenty of towns and
villages.
