OpenOffice TEI XML Filter requirements?

I'm trying to import a TEI.2 document into OpenOffice.org, using the teioo¹ 
filters.  Problem is, importing a TEI document just gives the vague error:

    Error loading document file:(filename)
    General Error.
    General input/output error.

Not very helpful.

Does anyone know if there are XML filter requirements that aren't specified in 
the packaging system itself?

Or perhaps someone has figured this out already?
