not true! OSX does not have Port 22 blocked unless you are running
10.1 or earlier. (Not sure if it would affect you if you started
with 10.1 and did upgrade installs for 10.2, 10.3, and/or 10.4).
The reason why sshd does not work by default is not that there is a
blocked port, but rather that it is not running.
It should start running properly if you enable "Remote Login" in the
"Sharing" System Preference.
The only exception I know of with this is if you have the built-in
(or a 3rd party) firewall installed. This, however, is not enabled
by default.
