You should try to systematically reproduce the actual problem and
file a bug, I couldn't find a setting to tell certificate authentication
request to pop up in the background, to me that doesn't make much
sense. I am sure the GNOME/mozilla developers would agree and
would be glad to fix the problem, but it is difficult for them to fix a
somewhat "random" problem, it would be better if you could explain
how to reproduce it and file a fixable bug.
