Website design : what to use ?

FWIW from a linux newb, have to add to this about HTML authoring - I've
just installed unbuntu and haven't gotten to the stage of actually
being productive yet, but the app I used under windows is now a java
based program, that claims to be portable to any OS -

for it [needs java 1.4 or higher]

I've always been happy w/ it's features, and the java version is
infinitely custom configureable, and works very well in xp, so I'm
hoping it'll do the same in linux - it's a code pounder, but has good
previewing capabilities w/ multiple browsers, and many time saving
features, including ftp functions - goes well w/ opera7, which I hope
to also use in ubuntu
