>From the command prompt, try "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"
Keep hitting Enter to accept all the defaults.
When you get to the Monitor stuff, you will have 3 options, from Basic
to Advanced.  Choose basic, and choose a monitor resolution like
800x600.
