THANK YOU James...
Since I first replaced ubuntu with kubuntu (this time using the
installers expert mode...) And quickly found that I had pretty much the
same issue with the KDE version...
So even though I had little problem circumventing the sudo convention
(see below) the rest of your first command line example worked like a
charm... THANKS!
Installing with the expert mode allowed me to create the root account.
(and even permitted that I can wait till later to start creating user
accounts... {WOW! for the first time ever with linux I'm going to have
/etc/skel configured MY way with a few cherished tools (such as mc with
all the right configuration choices in place) BEFORE I start creating
the daily use accounts }) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) Oh, happy, happy, joy, joy!
