id:3:initdefault: in /etc/inittab doesn't do it?????
So how do I get rid of the gui login screen?
I don't like any gui to come up until and unless I type startx at a user
prompt...
So I modified /etc/inittab as follows
# The default runlevel.
#id:2:initdefault:
id:3:initdefault:
But I still get that annoying gui login screen...
Ya, I can manually bypass it with ctrl+alt+F[2-6]
but that isn't the same thing... besides if I log in on a virtual
console and attempt a startx it complains that the server is already
running...
And because the initial splash screen hiding the text boot sequence
messages bugged me. I also modified my /boot/grub/menu.lst kernel line
as follows:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-9-386 root=/dev/hda4 ro vga=normal
And I modified /etc/inittab as follows
#1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1 --noclear
But that initial gui login still walks all over it. <sigh>
The worst thing about them adding new gui tools is when they disable the
pre-existing non-gui tools and ONLY allow gui methods to work... That's
the original reason I learned to hate microshaft in the first place.
