This is only your option. Nobody can tell you what "is better".
If you want to use "now" the 8174 driver, you must download the Generic
driver from the Company web and compile it with the same gcc used with
your kernel. You don't have more choices...
I probe it, and works fine. But one more thing, if you have a card some
time old (like mine, 4 years old), a new driver usually don't add any
more support for it. In other words, usually is not needed upgrade the
driver. Is only a question of "have the last"...
