updating nvidia

I see nvidia recently released 1.0-8174 and wonder how others are
going about updating to it.  It's not available in ubuntu.  I also
checked debian for this package, but they don't have it yet either.

What's your experience .. is it better to remove the nvidia packages
and just use the nvidia official installer, or wait for the debian
packages to be made and find their way into ubuntu (maybe not until
dapper)?
