I am having the same problem and want to work through your how-to, but I
also had an issue with the live CD. It simply will not work on my
system, specifically it runs through all of the normal live CD bootup
stuff, gets to the gnoe GDM ubuntu welcome screen and suddenly the
system hard locks and the screen goes black. The only way for me to
recover is with a hard reset. I have played with the ubuntu live CD on
this system all day with no luck. I have decided to look for other live
distros and see if any of them will work. Knoppix worked well but I was
unable to get the ethernet on this system to function in knoppix so i
couldn't get the required package.

I decided I would search for a live distro with dm raid already on it
and I found a gen2dmraid live cd that I am currently downloading and
attempting to install. I assutehis should work well because the key is
creating and preformatting the linux partitions in preperation for the
ubuntu install.

I am primarily posting this to say thank you for the how-to it seems
very well done, now I just need to muddle through it.
