Not sure about your Open Office problem, but if you are getting garbled
graphics from your Samsung gdi printer (less noticeable on the test
page, but you'll see it almost immediately if you try to print out large
graphics from other applications), check out this bug:

Just putting this out there, since I suspect that this bug will hit you
once you get your printer sharing configured.

(I use a shared Samsung laser printer (a ML-1430), but it's shared from
a Fedora Core server.  I've not ever connected it directly to my Ubuntu
laptops.)
