nVidia with stock kernel crashes when leaving X

I run that same setup (NVidia GeForce FX5500, Athlon XP 2700+, and VIA
Mobo chipset) and I never had that problem, with any kernel, compiled
with any version of GCC. In fact I was running a slimmed down custom job
compiled with GCC 4.0 + the NVidia driver from NVidia
