Because of the 3D Acceleration ;)

I'm sorry to say, but hardware accleration doesn't exist at the moment
in the free 'nv' driver.

They didn't, I meant it shouldn't crash like the binary driver ;)

You are right, there really *should* be a free AND good (as in "h/w
acceleration") solution, but seems you can't have everything :|

But you could at least try the nv driver to see if your problem is
because of the binary nvidia driver.
