Hi I have the same issue. I cannot enable hardware overlay. I have
harware overlay enabled in my xorg.conf file and have followed all of
the avice here,
Yet my xorg logfile is still saying that hardware overlay is disabled.

I am using a radeon X800XT video card. Unfortunately using non ATI
propriatory drivers is not an option - as this card cost me nearly $800
new - and I am not in any hurry do disable 3D accellaration, or decrease
it's performace in any way, as really this would feel like a terrible
waste of money.
Any input would therefore be very much appreciated.
