Look at the PUPA's home page I just found in Google :

Among the goals they listed for GRUB-2, I can see a couple pretty
explicit and encouraging statements :

non-ASCII character code, message catalogs like gettext, fonts, graphics
console, and so on.
- Add a scripting language, to make GNU GRUB more customizable.
