Ok, if I add the "wireless key" line into the "/etc/network/interfaces"
for eth1 (my Wi-Fi card), it still does not work. I still get high
number on "Rx invalid crypt" which means the WEP failed to make the
handshake.
But, if I configure the interface using CLI :
sudo iwconfig eth1 essid something
sudo iwconfig key something
sudo ifup eth1
I can get connected without problem.
Now, after the experiment, I want to make a point that :
a. Gnome network interface setup fail to configure the Wi-Fi card using
WEP key provided in its menu driven interface
b. Tinkering with CLI is still needed, which will reduce the user-
friendliness of Hoary, and the main point of me trying the Ubuntu is to
deliver this laptop to a novice user where I am not comfortable giving
root access to the system.
I hope that it can be solved soon. I remember that Java Dekstop System
release 1 also having the same problem with the Prism I card. That time
only when using another PCMCIA card, Cisco Aironet 340 my problem was
solved. Only after the Java Desktop System Release 2 then it can do the
configuration correctly. Unfortunately I sold my Aironet since the break
up of support in kernel 2.6. I will test again after I can borrow my
friend's Lucent Orinoco card to see wether this one is related to the
hardware or not.
Many thanks for the list member's support :D
