How to upgrade from warty to hoary...

I upgraded from warty using apt as well. I only ran into a few minor
issues though.
(1) If you've hand tuned any configuration files or scripts, such as
acpi scripts etc, you may want to back those up. I'm always torn when
I upgrade a package that has a new version of a script or
configuration file whether to let it install the new one or keep my
old one that's customized. At any rate if you let it overwrite a
customized config file, apt should move the old one aside and rename
it. If you opt to keep the customized files, apt should put the new
one there and name it config.file.new or something. Still it may be
worth backing up any hand-tuned scripts or conf files
(2) One of the first things I did when I installed warty is to
uninstall packages I didn't want like evolution, etc. This had the
effect of breaking a lot of meta-packages like ubuntu-desktop, and
others. Unfortunately, when I upgraded to hoary, I didn't realize
until later that there were brand new packages that I didn't pick up
because the meta-packages that are dependent on them were
"uninstalled" (meta packages don't really have any files--they just
represent specific collections of real packages). So the lesson is,
before doing a major upgrade, you may want to go into synaptic and
restore any of the major meta-packages you may have broken if you
uninstalled any packages. Ones that come to mind are ubuntu-desktop
and ubuntu-base, but there are others.
good luck
